UK Ratings: The 5 Big Xmas Day Winners & Losers

Asian TV channels in the UK left no stone unturned to lure viewers with its big programming properties on Christmas Day and while some worked, a lot were rejected by viewers, BizAsiaLive.com brings exclusively the biggest winners and losers.

The Winners

PTC Punjabi primetime
The channel came No.2 in UK ratings on Christmas Day, just behind Star Plus. It beat all other channels including ZEE, Sony, Colors and Hum TV. PTC Punjabi averaged with 19,800 viewers between 19:00 – 23:00 with its reality shows and news/current affairs shows.

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein on Star Plus
The most dependable show on Star Plus, ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ was once again the No.1 show on UK Asian TV on Christmas Day. It attracted 110,500 viewers.

Rani on Geo TV
The channel’s recently launched show ‘Rani’ has gone on to become a huge success for the channel. It was one of the most watched shows on Pakistani television on Christmas Day with 24,800 viewers.

Gumrah on Hum TV
The show was easily the most watched show on Pakistani television on Christmas Day in the UK. The popular show has remained consistent with its high ratings and did not disappoint on Christmas Day.

Chal Mere Bhai on Sony SAB TV
Out of all the big movie blockbusters that were screened on various TV channels, it was the 2000 hit ‘Chal Mere Bhai’ starring Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor that got the biggest audience. It was aired on Sony SAB TV at 14:45, which fetched 21,300 viewers.

The Losers

Jab Harry Met Sejal on &TV
The Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma romantic comedy premiered on &TV – first time in HD, as the channel’s big Christmas treat. However, the film proved a major letdown with an average audience of under 1,000 viewers at 13:00.

Dangal on ZEE Cinema
The blockbuster Bollywood movie was touted as ZEE Cinema’s big movie offering on Christmas Day but it failed to attract a big enough audience. The Aamir Khan wrestling drama pulled in a paltry 2,400 viewers at 18:00.

Mubarakan on Sony MAX
After its first telecast on Christmas Eve, with over 30,000 viewers, the repeat telecast of ‘Mubarakan’ on Sony MAX could manage just 6,100 viewers at 13:45.

Brit Asia Music Awards 2017 on Brit Asia TV
The telecast of the annual Brit Asian Music Awards 2017, which was Brit Asia TV’s big Christmas Day highlight proved a let down. The star-studded event could attract around 1,000 viewers only at 20:00.

Hum Masala – All day ratings
One of the biggest Asian TV channels in the UK, Hum Masala, got a zero share on Christmas Day. The channel was up against some of the bigger entertainment channels, which got the better of Hum Masala. Its top show was ‘Tarka’ at 20:00 with just 5,100 viewers.
