UK extends validity of BRPs and BRCs for Indians in UK

The UK government has announced that Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) and EUSS Biometric Residence Cards (BRCs) will remain valid as evidence of permission to travel until 31st March 2025, even if these documents expire on or after 31st December 2024.

The decision comes as part of the ongoing transition to the UK’s new eVisa system, which aims to digitize immigration status verification. The extension is intended to ensure continuity for travelers while the new system is adopted.

To date, over 3.1 million individuals have transitioned to eVisas. However, many travelers still rely on BRPs and BRCs. The extension is seen as a measure to provide additional time for these individuals to switch before the end of 2024, when the full adoption of eVisas is expected.

The extension is particularly significant as the busy festive travel season approaches. By extending validity, the government aims to minimise travel disruptions for affected individuals. Travelers are encouraged to begin the transition process as soon as possible to avoid potential delays in the future.
