UK Box Office: ‘Mar Gaye Oye Loko’ opens bigger than ‘YPD’ & ‘Stree’

The Punjabi film ‘Mar Gaye Oye Loko’ has opened up bigger than the two other Bollywood releases, BizAsiaLive.com can reveal.

The comedy starring Punjabi superstar Gippy Grewal and Sapna Pabbi, collected £42,008 in its opening weekend (31st August – 2nd September). This was much higher than ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se’, which could manage only £35,402 during the same period. The horror comedy, ‘Stree’ featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor raked in £20,488.

Another advantage ‘Mar Gaye Oye Loko’ had over ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se’, was that it opened on much fewer sites than the latter – 23 for ‘Mar Gaye Oye Loko’ and 38 for ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se’. ‘Stree’ was screened at 11 sites.

‘Mar Gaye Oye Loko’ has opened up huge in India too, putting it at No.8 in terms of all-time Punjabi openers in India. Grewal’s previous blockbuster ‘Carry On Jatta 2’, which released earlier this year, is the biggest hit in the history of Punjabi cinema.
