UEFA objects to BCCI’s “Champions League”

The governing body of European football, Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has reportedly expressed unhappiness at the Indian cricket board for naming their tournament “Champions League”.

They have opposed the Board of Indian Cricket (BCCI) using the name as it clashes with UEFA’s premier inter club football tournament, UEFA Champions League.

Apparently, BCCI had applied for a Community Trade Mark (CTM) license for the event, which would enable them to promote and market the event in the UK.

As per the media reports, UEFA had sent a letter to the BCCI informing them about violation of the use of trademarks of the Champions League in the European Union.

The inaugural edition of the event was scheduled for December 2008.
