Actor Shahid Kapoor has done extremely well when it comes to ‘out-of-the-box roles. If his act as ‘Haider’ in Vishal Bhardwaj’s film of the same name seemed likebig deal, then his next role has pushed the boundaries of his own expectations.

Next to be seen in Abhishek Chaubey’s ‘Udta Punjab’, Kapoor will reprise the role of a drug addicted rock star. Not being able to relate to this character at all,New India Express reported the actor explaining, “Tommy Singh is the scariest character I have ever played because I have no idea what somebody who is high is going through. I don۪t even drink alcohol, so I don۪t know what it is like to be high. I had no idea how I was going to do the role, but I felt that it was a challenge I needed to take up. Tommy Singh is nothing like me he is a Punjabi pop star who is a substance addict. He is not a regular guy.”

The film takes a raw approach in looking deep into drug crime. Talking of how he bagged the role, Kapoor said, “Abhishek (Chaubey) thought that no mainstream actor would like to do a film like this, but fortunately, he had fans who convinced him to try; so very reluctantly he decided to approach some of us for the film. Fortunately, I was the first one he came to. Usually, I take time to say yes۪ to a film, but after we met, I just stood up, shook hands with him, and said, I have never heard a part like this before and I would regret it for the rest of my life if I let this one go۪. ”

“I have no idea how people will react to the movie but it gives me the most amazing opportunity as an actor. I felt the story was honest, new and strong, and it was saying something that I think everybody should think about, especially today۪s generation. ” He went on to add.

Also starringAlia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh, ‘Udta Punjab’ is set to release on 17th June.
