Two stations contest for Slough FM radio licence

Asian Star Radio
Asian Star Radio applies for Slough FM licence

Asian Star Radio will compete with current holder Time 106.6 for the FM commercial radio in Slough, which is up for renewal.

Time 106.6 is owned by Sunrise Radio۪s parent company Litt Corporation. Asian Star Radio currently holds a Community Radio Licence for the Slough area on FM 101.6.

Ofcom today announced that it had received two applications one from Time 106.6 and one from Asian Star Radio.

Asian Star says it will offer “a unique service primarily for the Asian communities of the Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead areas. Programmes will feature a broad range of local news and information supported by popular music covering a wide range of Asian tastes. Presentation will be mainly in English with some material in Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi.”

Time 106.6?s proposed format is for a “locally-focused radio station designed to appeal to a broad range of adult listeners, particularly those aged 25-64.”

A recent decision to remove Sunrise Radio from digital radio in Birmingham has raised further doubts about Litt Corporation’s financial power and whether it will be able to muscle a deal for Time 106.6’s renewal, which will be further tested in the next few months.
