Two new soaps ready for 22:00 slot on Sony TV

Sony Entertainment Television Asia is on a launch spree of new dramas, with two set to debut this week in the 22:00 – 23:00 slot.

First up, BR Films produced show ‘Sujata’ will replace the existing reality show ‘Ustadon Ke Ustad’. It takes the 22:00 time band. That slot has been in reshuffle mode ever since ‘Tujhko Hai Salaam Zindegi’ was shifted from the 20:30 slot. It was subsequently replaced with ‘Mr and Ms TV’ and more recently ‘Ustadon Ke Ustad’.

Sony Entertainment Television creative head Sanjay S Upadhyay said, “As per the available figures, Sony isn’t doing too well in the fiction category but we are confident that Sujata can turn the tables for us. We are already getting a good response from the advertisers for this content.”

‘Sujata’ tells the story of a woman, who gets married, looks after her children but by the time she’s in her 40s, she is going through a mid-life crisis. With all the sacrifices she’s made for her family, her husband and children start ignoring her when she needs them the most.

Following ‘Sujata’ will be another new offering – ‘Waqt Batayega Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya’ at 22:30.

It۪s a story of Rudra, an adopted girl who enjoys the love and affection of her father Biswajeet, who hails from one of the biggest Zamindar families in Kolkata. However, the other family members have always considered her an outsider. She yearns for mother’s love but her foster mother Yashomati does not show any affection towards her. The story comes to full circle with Yashomati realising her worth after she gets deceived by her own sons and accepting Rudra as her daughter, a daughter Yashomati has longed for.

The show is produced by Creative Eye. “The subject of Waqt Batayega_ is very sensitive and we are glad that Sony Entertainment Television has liked the concept and we hope it touches the viewers’ hearts too. It is a very different story. In a society where male child rules, here is a family that is longing for a girl child. The show attempts to explore and understand the importance of a girl child in a family and society at large,” said Creative Eye chairman and MD Dheeraj Kumar.

Both new shows begin on Sony Entertainment Television Asia this Monday (14th April).
