Two new shows for Sony this month

Sony Entertainment Television Asia is readying itself some fresh programming set to air later this month.

According to the network۪s COO, N P Singh, in the new content line-up, the channel would launch various new shows, including Aisa Desh Hai Mera۪ and Thodi Khushi Thode Gham۪ both launching on 24th April.

Aisa Desh Hai Mera۪ is coming in the 21:00 slot, taking the space that would be left vacant by Indian Idol Season 2۪ culminating. Thodi Khushi Thode Gham۪ comes in the 21:30 slot, replacing Deal Ya No Deal۪, which would be taken to a different slot. Both shows are designed as stripped dailies from Monday to Thursday.

Sony’s new initiative of bringing back family soaps again and cutting down on reality shows could well work in its favour. Its ‘Fear Factor’ show has been garnering big ratings for the channel on Friday nights. However, the channel has seen some tough competition in India from Sahara One. The latter has injected some new life into its channel with a new on-air look and the telecast of India and England’s ongoing cricket. ZEE TV remains number two in India with its own successful shows ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa-Ek Main Aur Ek Tu’, ‘Saat Phere’ and ‘Kasamh Se’.

How will the new Sony additions work? Will it be able to fight off competition from Sahara One and ZEE TV? Will Sahara One drop back to number four what with the India and England cricket series coming to an end? Only time will tell. Keep it with us for updates.
