Two Muslim stations awarded community licences

Ofcom has awarded two community licences to Muslim radio services in the UK.

The first known as Ark AM will serve the needs of Glasgow’s diverse Muslim communities. It will compete directly with Awaz FM in the same area, which broadcasts to a broader Asian audience.

Similarly, Radio Seerah in Leicester has been awarded a five-year licence to broadcast on AM, which will put it in direct competition with Sabras Radio. However, Sabras Radio broadcasts to the whole of the East Midlands with shows targeting a bigger Asian audience. Radio seerah’s output will consist of programming targeting diverse Muslim and ethnic communities of inner Leicester.
