Ofcom awards two radio community licences in Sheffield

Ofcom has granted two new Muslim community radio licences in Sheffield.

The two stations are Unity FM and IMAN FM, which will cover Sheffield and Rotherham. Unity FM will provide a community radio service for Pakistani and Muslim communities within the broadcast area in Sheffield. IMAN FM will provide a community radio service for the diverse Muslim communities in parts of Sheffield and Rotherham.

Community radio services are provided on a not-for-profit basis focusing on the delivery of specific social benefits to a particular geographical community or a community of interest.

The licences are awarded for a five-year period.
