Two judges drop out of Sony’s ‘Indian Idol 3’

With ‘Bigg Boss’ now out the way, Sony Entertainment Television Asia is readying its next reality show – the third series of the singing contest ‘Indian Idol’.

The first series proved a major property for the channel but the second series, aired last year, had a lacklustre run.

The two series’ so far have seen music director Anu Malik, director Farah Khan and singer Sonu Nigam form the judging panel. However, according to industry buzz, the latter two have dropped out due to “other commitments”.

Farah is busy working on her next movie ‘Om Shanti Om’ starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, whilst Sonu Nigam is busy touring Asia.

Even though some reports have suggested that Sonu Nigam was not approached by the channel, there are also some saying that Sonu himself opted out because of his bad equation with Himesh Reshammiya who is tipped to be the new judge.

Himesh has previously judged rival show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa: Challenge 2005’ for ZEE TV.

The channel is due to make an announcement in the next few days on its new judging panel, along with the contestants in the race to become the next ‘Indian Idol’, so keep it with BizAsia.co.uk for updates.
