Tiscali to offer Asian channels via Jump TV

Internet service provider Tiscali has struck a lucrative deal with on-demand broadcaster Jump TV, which will allow it to stream numerous TV channels from South Asia.

The partnership between the two will give visitors of Tiscali’s UK portal access to thousands of hours of Asian TV content from broadcasters like India TV (Indian news channel), Channel I (Bangla news channel), Sahara One, Filmy, Sony Entertainment Television Asia (India version), Aaj TV (Pakistani entertainment channel), amongst many others.

“At Tiscali, we understand how important video content is to our users, as the entertainment section is one of the most popular in our extensive portal. By partnering with Jump TV and gaining access to one of the largest libraries of global television, we have expanded our Internet television offering. This is an exciting venture and we are looking forward to working with Jump TV,” said Alex Hole, head of online at Tiscali UK.

“This partnership with Tiscali UK fits with Jump TV۪s strategy of partnering with the top ISPs around the world as a primary means to expand our customer reach,” commented Kaleil Isaza Tuzman, president and chief operation officer of Jump TV. “We are proud to be associated with an innovative company focused on rich media and the Web 2.0 environment.”

Isaza Tuzman continued, “Satellite and traditional cable TV providers have proven for years that there is a strong appetite for international television in the UK, as the country is a hub for Asians, Middle Easterners, Africans and continental Europeans. Couple these demographics with the UK۪s very high broadband penetration rate and you have Jump TV’s second largest target market after North America.”

Jump TV is a leading distributor of live international television and sports over the Internet. With over 300 TV channels from 75+ countries, Jump TV delivers full-screen sports, news and entertainment content on a real-time basis.

In July this year, Italy’s Tiscali bought UK firm Pipex’s broadband unit for 210m, expanding its presence in the country.
