Swara Bhasker to reprise Shabana Azmi’s character in ‘Arth’ remake

It was recently reported that Jacqueline Fernandez has been approached for Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Arth’ (1982) remake, now news has it that Swara Bhasker is also to star in the film.

According to Pinkvilla, Bhasker is to reprise Shabana Azmi’s character, while Fernandez will play Smita Patil’s role. A source revealed, “Swara and Revathy have incredible respect for each other’s body of work. Revathy has followed Swara’s films and considers her one of the best actresses we have today. So when she was scouting for a performer with a stellar acting prowess to step into Shabana’s shoes, she couldn’t think of anyone but Swara.”

“Verbally, they have agreed on doing the film. Now, they are working out the modalities before Swara signs on the dotted line. But she’s definitely doing the film. Revathy plans to roll the film around this December-January,” added the source.

The original star cast also included Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Raj Kiran in lead roles, so it remains to be seen who will take up these roles.
