Sushant Singh Rajput has taken a different route to Bollywood, compared to his television pals, who have most possibly been seen in erotic thrillers that have underperformed at the box office.

Choosing films like ‘Kai Po Che’ (2013) and ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ (2013), the former ‘Pavitra Rishta’ star gave the actor commercial success and a place in the film industry. Since then, Singh has done over five other big titles with ‘MS Dhoni – The Untold Story’ (2016) being his biggest hit to date. Now the actor has ‘Raabta’ releasing this weekend, Rajput told BizAsiaLive.com ‘s Raj Baddhan about the switch from television to films.

He said, “When I quit working in TV, there was a phase of six months when I had nothing. There were films like these [erotic thrillers] coming to me and I was saying no to them. The most important thing that is lacking is belief. Like when I was quitting, everyone was telling me that television actors don’t successfully normally graduate to films. It was only Shah Rukh Khan 25 years back and then there was nobody. But it was because of this belief that nobody has done it….I always told myself that I’ve trained myself well enough in theatre and the way I act in front of TV cameras, I can do in front of film cameras. I just waited for the right opportunity.”

He also spoke about friends in the industry and what part of his career so far he would brand as “pinnacle”.
