Sushant Singh Rajput wants to star in all ‘Byomkesh’ novels

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput is one of the leading young actors in Bollywood today. He started off his journey when there were a bunch of newcomers working towards the same success, but Rajput is different. He proved that an actor only needs talent to succeed. Expectations were high with his first release, Abhishek Kapoor’s ‘Kai Po Che,’ in 2013, and he not only met, but surpassed expectations with his portrayal of the confident Ishaan. Rajput is quite excited about his next, ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!’ directed by Dibakar Banerjee.

‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’ is a special film for Rajput. He wants the audience to accept the hard work and effort that the entire team has put in the film, and hopes the acceptance will allow them to make the other thirty-two novels of the series, into feature films. According to The Indian Express, Rajput said, “In my eight years I think I have not worked on something like this. We all have worked very hard and put in our best. I want everybody to watch this film and appreciate our efforts so that we can make the whole 32 novels of Byomkesh.”

Rajput made his remarkable Bollywood debut when there were many who had written ofF actors who transitioned from TV to films. He made one and all take notice with his natural ease in front of the camera, having proved his mettle in both mediums. Rajput won over millions of hearts with both his TV roles, once in his debut as the gregarious Preet of Star Plus’s ‘Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil’, (2008-2010) and then the his innocent portrayal of a lower middle class, minimally educated mechanic, Manav, of Zee TV’s cult classic ‘Pavitra Rishta’ (2009-2014).

He scored big with his last two hits, ‘Shuddh Desi Romance,’ (2013) and most recently ‘PK,’ (2014) standing firm, in not only a cameo appearance, but an Aamir Khan film as well.

Rajput has done everything on his own, and when asked about being categorized as the ‘next bankable star,’ he further said, “It feels nice because when I thought of becoming an actor eight years back, it was like saying I would like to become the next Prime Minister of India. I don’t have any relations in the industry and neither did I have the money to produce a film for me. What I had was the passion for the arts.”

Rajput says he is “selfish” when choosing films, a word that will certainly not describe the dedication one sees in his charismatic characters. “When I choose a film and start working on it, I never think whether the film will be a hit or not. I am a selfish actor. I only consider the role and the filmmaker and how much I can learn from the film. Only on the last day of shoot do I start thinking about the audience’s reaction.”

Rajput’s avatar and commitment to playing the famous Bengali detective, had been making headlines ever since he had been shooting in Kolkata, (to get into the skin of the character.) It is no surprise that there is much expectation riding on him. Hopefully his desire in adapting the rest of the series into Hindi films will be achieved.
