Sunrise Radio turns off digital feed in B’ham

In a surprise move, Sunrise Radio has ceased broadcasting on DAB digital radio in the Birmingham area.

By the look of things, Sunrise Radio has opted not to renew its licence on the Birmingham multiplex, which was up for renewal May-end.

Sunrise Radio’s channel has been showing ‘Station Off Air’ since Saturday 9th June.

The station continues to broadcast fine in Wolverhampton and Coventry. However, a question mark hangs over the future in these areas too when the licence comes up for renewal in January next year.

This news will be welcomed by commercial rivals Radio XL, Panjab Radio and Sanjhi Awaz Radio, which were competing with the London based station previously.

Our source confirmed the above news. BizAsia attempted to contact Sunrise Radio for a comment but did not respond in time.
