Sun TV denies issues relating to family rift

Sun TV has issued a formal denial following media reports suggesting a dispute between former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran and his elder brother Kalanithi Maran, Chairman and Managing Director of Sun TV Network.

According to the reports, Dayanidhi Maran is said to have served a legal notice to Kalanithi Maran, accusing him of fraudulently acquiring control of the company through a contentious share allotment dating back to 2003.

In response, Sun TV released a statement clarifying that the matter in question dates back 22 years, to a time when the company operated as a closely held private limited entity.

The statement read, “The claims made in the reports are inaccurate, misleading, speculative and defamatory, lacking any basis in fact or law. We wish to clarify that all actions were carried out in compliance with legal requirements and were duly reviewed by the relevant intermediaries prior to the company’s public listing.”

Sun TV further added, “The matters alleged have no impact on the company’s operations or its daily business. As they pertain to personal family issues involving the Promoter, they are private in nature.”
