Subhash Ghai on why GenNext do not acknowledge him
Known to be the ‘Showman’ of Bollywood, Subhash Ghai has directed some iconic films over the years. However, the veteran filmmaker feels the younger actors do not acknowledge him and that is why they would not attend his birthday party.
Speaking toDNA India, Ghai said, “I guess the GenNext doesn’t want to acknowledge me till I give a big hit (laughs). For them it doesn’t matter what you did in the past. They don’t realise that in Hollywood, many good directors are above 70 years. They are not my friends and also for most of them like Sonam (Kapoor), Sonakshi (Sinha) and Tiger (Shr0ff), I am an uncle. They must thinkinke saath thodidance karenge. But they give me love and respect when they meet me and that’s enough for me. It’s not necessary that they have to come for every event of mine. I have done and seen it all.”
Ghai last directed ‘Kaanchi: The Unbreakable’ (2014), which launched new faces to the industry. Unfortunately, the film failed to live up to expectations. As a director, Ghai’s last success at the Box Office was ‘Taal’ (1999), after which he has gone through a low phase professionally.
