Students in India & police clash over banned BBC documentary

Students and police in India have clashed over the banned BBC documentary about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role during the 2002 Gujarat riots.

The documentary has sparked controversy amongst followers of Modi. Despite a ban, colleges, universities and social media platforms have been attempting to share clips from the programme.

The ban has been criticised as an attack on press freedom.

In videos shared on social media, police have been seen with tear gas and riot gear gathered outside the campus gates and detained at least six students as trouble flared.
