‘Strictly’ race row: Du Beke says “sorry” on TV

Disgraced professional dancer, Anton Du Beke, has made an on-air apology to partner, Laila Rouass and the viewers over racist remarks he made on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.

Both Anton and Laila appeared on ‘Strictly’s’ spin-off show, ‘It Takes Two’, where Anton apologised to Laila and viewers publicly saying he felt embarrassed and stupid.

Anton first apologised last weekend, but since then hundreds of people have complained to the BBC about his remarks and some said he should be sacked.

Laila says she’s accepted Anton’s apology and wants to move on.

During the short interview, Anton said his comments were “a stupid thing to do”.

“Now people are talking about that when they should be talking about the show, the great show that it is,” he said.

“I’m mortified about it completely and Laila has been quite remarkably wonderful.”

Laila said she didn’t think Anton deserved to be sacked.

“Apart from the dancing he’s taught me how to be gracious and how to laugh at silly things and we’ve just had such a great time and I want it to carry on,” she said.

“It’s just such a shame that this has happened and we want to move on.”
