‘Strictly Come Dancing’ makes history with first ever Bollywood performance
BBC One’s popular weekend show, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, has broken new ground by featuring its first-ever Bollywood performance.
On Saturday, contestant Punam Krishan and her professional partner Gorka Márquez wowed the audience with a dance to ‘Bole Chudiyan’ from the 2001 Bollywood hit ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’. This marks the first time in the show’s two-decade history that a couple has danced to a traditional Bollywood song.
Reflecting on the moment, Krishan, a 41-year-old TV doctor, told BBC, “I never saw Indian girls dancing on mainstream TV, so to now perform an Indian dance on Strictly is a huge moment.”
