STAR Plus’ long running and hit drama ‘Kausatii Zindagi Kay’ will be going off air in January, according to reports.

Online portal TelevisionPoint has reported a source revealing, “Balaji Telefilms have informed the cast that Kasauti will be off television on 14th January. This way they get enough notice to look for other work.”

Hiten Tejwani said, “It’s sad that the show which helped create the saas bahu genre is finally getting over.” But he’s glad that Kasauti is ending on a good note.

Did it have something to do with lead protagonist Shweta Tiwari’s turbulent private life? “I guess when the main Star has family issues, it does reflect on the show,” admits Tejwani. However, another source insists that Tiwari did not miss a single shoot and is hardly the cause for the exit of ‘Kasautii Zindagi Kay’.

The source adds, “The best thing about the show was that it was love story intertwined with family drama. The decision to pull it off air is the right one, the viewers clearly didn’t like the latest generation. Also, it was becoming tough to continuously create tracks with the three principal characters, Bajaj (Ronit Roy), Prerna (Tiwari) and Anurag (Tejwani).”

Both Ritti Chopra, creative head for the show and producer Ekta Kapoor remained unavailable for comment.

The show will continue on air in the UK until summer 2008 due to the transmission gap between India and Europe.
