Star India’s flagship English entertainment channel, Star World is reportedly planning to shutdown and move its content to digital platform, Disney+ Hotstar.
Reports say that Indian broadcasters are closely monitoring performance of their channels in the wake of the coronavirus lockdown. Viewing habits have altered, with many people now accessing digital streaming platforms a lot more than previously.
Star World, which has been broadcasting since 1991 is the home of English content from the US and UK. It also has locally produced content, including ‘Koffee With Karan’, which is expected to move to another channel.
Incidentally, Sony Pictures Networks India recently pulled the plug on it own English channel, AXN. It will be bidding adieu on 1st July. Similarly, Network18 has axed lifestyle channel, FYI TV18.
