Star TV UK is set to launch Star Utsav in the UK/Europe market in July, according to industry speculation.

As revealed first on BizAsiaLive.com in January, the broadcaster has been prepping the launch of Star Utsav for the past year. It is believed the channel will launch on the Sky platform on Monday 4th July replacing Bengali entertainment channel, Star Jalsha on EPG 808.

Star TV UK is keeping tight-lipped with the developments but the industry is abuzz with the exciting plans of Star Utsav UK. The channel will specialise in programming from the Star Plus library with re-runs of classic shows.

Star Plus UK recently launched a new afternoon band, which includes old Star Plus shows like Ek Hasina Thi۪, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon۪, Mahabharat۪ and Baa Bahoo Aur Baby۪. The shows are regularly attracting over 20,000 viewers in each 30-minute slot boosting the channel۪s overall ratings. Industry sources said that the move to launch Star Utsav in the UK derives from the success of Star Plus UK۪s afternoon band.

BizAsiaLive.com understands that Star Utsav’s launch will be backed with a huge marketing campaign handled by 2-3 media agencies.

An official announcement from Star TV UK is expected later this month. It is awaiting clearance from Sky and Ofcom before it goes public with the news.
