Star TV to venture into VOD with online player

Star TV will be launching its Video On Demand (VOD), which will provide content from its network of channels online through various devices.

The player is said to be free for subscribers, with content being streamed at 64 KBPs. It will air 100+ TV shows from every channel of the Star Network, including regional channels in six languages. It will also air more than 300 movies, across languages. In the launch month, the network will focus on blockbuster movies such as ��Kick�۪, ��Dabangg�۪, ��Jai Ho�۪ and ��Bang Bang�۪. In sports, the main focus will be on cricket, from India Australia series leading up to the World Cup, from live to video on demand content.

Star Plus currently uses YouTube to run promotions and teasers of its upcoming shows. Most content from the channel is also available on YouTube.

It is currently not known if Star TV will be reviving its Star Player with this initiative or launching a new brand. ZEE Network has its own on-demand platform, Ditto TV and Sony launched its Sony LIV player in 2013.
