Star TV to launch new free movies channel in India

Star TV India has confirmed plans to launch a free-to-air movies channel, which will sit under the ‘Star Utsav’ brand.

The channel will be known as Star Utsav Movies and is expected to go on air by June.

A source told TelevisionPost, ���We are launching an FTA movie channel Star Utsav Movies in May or June. It will have a mix of old and new movies. It will be available on Freedish. The channel is still under works.”

Star Utsav will feature new and old movies. The reasoning behind having the channel branded after ‘Star Utsav’ was down to brand recall for the audience it is targeting in rural areas.

Incidentally, in the UK, Star TV will be launching its Star Utsav channel imminently, as BizAsiaLive.com confirmed a few weeks ago (read here).
