Star TV to launch Movies Ok in India

Star TV has confirmed it is launching a second Hindi movie channel in India by the name of Movies Ok.

The Financial Express reports that the channel will be a part of the ‘Ok’ family and without the Star branding. Similarly, last December, Star TV launched its second Hindi entertainment channel, Life Ok, to accompany Star Plus. Movies Ok will do the same by being second to flagship channel, Star Gold.

Movies OK will compete in a space which has close to 12 channels including Sony MAX, Star Gold, ZEE Cinema, UTV Movies, UTV Action and ZEE Premier.

Star Gold launched in 2000 and has since jumped leaps and bounds to reach to the number one position in various markets around the world. The channel has relied on huge movie premieres including ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, ‘Ra.One’, ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Rockstar’, ‘Singham’, amongst others to boost its audience share.

Movies Ok launches on Sunday 6th May. There are no plans to launch Movies Ok in the UK, USA and Canada at this time.
