Star TV has reportedly signed a huge deal with production giant, Yash Raj Films (YRF), replacing Sony Pictures Networks after nearly three decades.
Since Sony Pictures Networks launch in the 90s, the broadcaster tied up with YRF for exclusive telecast of its movie library. However, Bollywood Hungama reports that Star Network has made an offer of Rs. 500 crore for the entire YRF catalogue of movies.
A source told the publication, “Ever since Disney acquired Fox and Star there has been an influx of financial backing. Thanks to this Star Network was able to offer up Rs. 500 cr. for the satellite right of forthcoming films that are to be made under the Yash Raj Films banner.”
Continuing further the source adds, “While the deal is for a whopping Rs. 500 cr, it isn’t clear whether the said amount is for a multi-year deal or whether the said deal also includes the digital rights of the movies.”
It is not currently known if the deal will include the entire Yash Raj Films movie catalogue from previous years and if the deal is long-term based.
