STAR TV India gets new CEO

STAR TV India has promoted its chief operating officer to take control as the company’s new CEO.

Uday Shankar, who joined Star India as COO in May, assumes the role of CEO with immediate effect, while senior VP of finance Jadgish Kumar is upped to take on his old role.

The announcement was made by STAR CEO Paul Aiello, who has until now been serving as CEO of STAR India.

As STAR India CEO, Shankar will be responsible for STAR’s overall business, reporting to Aiello. Kumar will report to Shankar and work closely with him in driving the company’s growth agenda.

Aiello commented: “Uday’s promotion is a recognition of the important contributions he has made to the growth and strategic development of Star India since he joined the company. His leadership, business acumen and vision will serve as invaluable assets as Star India strengthens its core operations and expands its services with a number of new initiatives.”

He added that Kumar will be “counted upon heavily as we grow our business in India.”

Prior to joining STAR India, Shankar served as CEO of STAR joint venture MCCS for three years. Before that, Shankar was editor and news director at India Today, launching channels Aaj Tak and Headlines Today. He was also responsible for launching the news division of Sahara TV.
