Star TV India bags global Asia Cup media rights

Star TV India has bagged the Asia Cup rights for the next eight years, giving a boost to its portfolio of growing sports coverage.

The deal means that the broadcaster will hold the rights for the tournament between 2016 to 2023, which will consist of the Asia Cup, Women’s Asia Cup, Emerging Asia Cup and U19 Asia Cup during this period.

The rights were awarded to Star TV India on 20th December in Singapore by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). ACC president Sidath Weetimuny said, ���The value offered by Star India is significantly higher than any of ACC�۪s previous commercial contracts and it will provide much needed funds for the development of games in Asia.�۝

���ACC is delighted to have the Star India as media partner to the next cycle of ACC. Star has an undisputed reputation as a sports broadcaster and will guarantee increased promotion and marketing of the ACC events globally,�۝ he added.

The 2016 edition of the Asia Cup will be played in a T20 format in Bangladesh. This will be the first time that event will be switching to a T20 format. The T20 World Cup will be held in Indian between 8th March and 3rd April, while the Asia Cup will take place between 24th February and 6th March.
