Star Plus UK to add more Pakistani-skewed content?

In an effort to win back audiences, Star Plus UK is reportedly planning to add more audiences skewed towards Pakistani viewers.

Sources close to Star Plus UK have informed BizAsiaLive.com that the broadcaster has been talking to various content providers about the inclusion of Urdu shows. The question remains, where it will acquire the shows from as major Pakistani broadcasters are readily available in the UK including Hum TV, Geo TV, ARY Family, A Plus and Urdu1 Europe.

Like other Indian TV broadcasters, Star Plus UK lost out heavily to Pakistani rivals during the all-important Ramadan period. Star UK is said to be re-evaluating its strategy by adding non-Indian shows to its line-up. It has just launched ‘Winter Sun’ – A Turkish show dubbed in Hindi. Previously, it aired ‘Mera Naam Yousuf Hai’, which was the channel’s first Urdu show in the UK. It has also launched ‘Mariam Khan Reporting Live’, which has a Muslim backdrop but filmed in India.

With the likes of Hum TV Europe luring Indian audiences to its channel, it seems Star Plus UK is attempting to win back Pakistani viewers, who have switched to Pakistani favourites.
