Star Plus purchase rights for desi ’24’

Star Plus has reportedly spent an astronomical Rs. 85 crore to broadcast the Indian version of hit American show ’24’.

Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor had announced in November last year that he had bought the rights of the show. According to Mumbai Mirror, the amount includes the entire production, casting, Anil Kapoor’s fees, and post production of the show.

According to a source close to the actor, what worked in Kapoor’s favour was the fact that 24 is Star’s Fox property and as such, being Hollywood producers of the hit series, they didn’t want it to go to any other channel except Star in India as well.

Incidentally, Anil Kapoor was seen in the last series of ’24’ and this time he will step into the shoes of iconic character, Jack Bauer. Originally, Kiefer Sutherland played the lead on the show.

All 192 episodes will be condensed, edited for big-screen viewing, and released as larger-than-life spy drama. With the American version having come under fire for its negative depiction of the Muslim community, among other things, its Indian counterpart will steer clear of such negative publicity.
