STAR News India offices attacked

Offices of India’s STAR News channel have been attacked in a rage by by a mob of members of an obscure organisation calling themselves the Hindu Rashtra Sena.

According to reports the party was angry about a story that was carried on the channel a few days ago about the marriage between a Muslim boy and a minor Hindu girl.

“They came here in four tempos and charged towards the office with iron rods and hammers. They started wrecking havoc on vehicles in the parking lot. They later moved into the building, and broke everything in sight and didn’t even spare our employees,” says Executive Director, STAR News, Chandra Mohan Puppala.

The attackers smashed a car parked outside the office and also damaged the office furniture, police said. The motive behind the attack was not known immediately.

“This is an attack on journalism but we will not back down,” says CEO STAR News, Uday Shankar.
