Star India claim responsibility for ‘Game Of Thrones’ episode leak

Star TV India has claimed responsibility for a serious episode leak of ‘Game Of Thrones’ before it was scheduled to be telecast on HBO on Sunday 6th August.

The broadcasting giant said it was investigating the incident after an entire episode came through Star India’s online platform – Hotstar, according to The Verge. The report adds that the leaked episode, which has gone viral online has the Star India watermark through the episode along with caption “For internal viewing only”.

A Star India spokesperson said, “We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause. This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action.”

Star India’s Hotstar platform is the official home to HBO shows that include ‘Game Of Thrones’, ‘True Detective’, Sillicon Valley’ and ‘The Sopranos’ to name a few. A censored version of ‘Game Of Thrones’ also airs on Star World Premiere.

HBO also faced a hack of its own this week but the two are not thought to be linked.
