Star Bharat to reposition itself as a light-entertainment channel?

Star Bharat is reportedly planning to reposition itself as a light-entertainment channel, a formula, which has paid dividends for rival, Sony SAB TV.

According to IWM Buzz, the channel is expected to drop most of its serious content and add some “humour” and “family entertainment”.

A source told the publication, “Shows Meri Gudiya, Kartik Purnima have already been shunted. As for the existing more popular shows like Savdhan India, RadhaKrishn, Jag Janani Maa Vaishno Devi, the shows have done well for the channel and will not see a closure mostly. In between there were talks of RadhaKrishn, the channel’s flagship show, being shifted to Star Plus.”

The source added, “Once normal functionality begins, the channel will work towards its new concept philosophy of humour laden family entertainment shows and will commission new shows along this line. As for RadhaKrishn, Jag Janani Vaishno Devi and Savdhaan India, there is a high chance of the shows being shifted to Star Plus, as they might not fit into the shift in strategy. However, there are also murmurs of Star Bharat starting off with these three shows to retain its core audience before flagging off the change.”

Star Bharat has not yet commented on this story.
