STAR axes Ekta-Smriti soap ‘Thodi Si Zameen…’

The much hyped weekly offering ‘Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasman’ on STAR Plus has been axed.

Much press speculation has surrounded the soap۪s future since one of its co-producers Ekta Kapoor sensationally left it, leaving the other- Smriti Z Irani to handle the production wholly.

STAR Plus confirmed the developments to Indian paper Mumbai Mirror, saying the decision was taken in a bid to revive its weekend programming. ‘Thodi Si Zameen…’ has not been performing so well and has continuously had its ratings thrashed by rival channels.

Anupama Mondloi, senior creative director of STAR said, “Thodi Si… is going off air, as we want to revamp our weekend programming. We have Voice of India, Baa Bahu Aur Baby, Prithviraj Chauhan and Sai Baba on our weekend slot which makes for good variety. There are plans to bring in some innovative changes for our viewers.”

In India, ‘Thodi Si Zameen…’ will be taken off air at the end of this month. In the UK, the show will remain on air until October-end.

What will come as a relief for Smriti is that Sony Entertainment Television Asia has extended the contract of her other production ‘Viruddh’, contrary to reports it too was facing the chop.
