Sridevi’s state honoured funeral was authorized by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Veteran actress Sridevi’s death sent shock waves to millions around the world. Her funeral was perhaps the most attended, with thousands of her fans flying from all over, to catch just one glimpse of the late actress. Sridevi’s funeral was given full state honors, which was not received well by many. RTI (Right to Information) activist Anil Galgali hunted for answers from the General Administration Department’s Protocol Department, as to who is entitled to an state funeral, and who has the right to authorize it. His query has confirmed that the state funeral was under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
As an reply to the RTI inquiry, it is confirmed that the Chief Minister has the power to authorize funerals with full state honors, and it does not relate to anyone receiving Padma or national honors, as reported by Indian Express. Galgali quoted the RTI reply, saying, “With regards to the full state honours for the late Amma Yangar Ayyappan, known as the famed actress Sridevi, verbal ordered were received from the CMO on February 25, 2018 and conveyed to the Mumbai Suburban District Collector and Mumbai Police Commissioner the following day to do the needful.”
Sridevi passed away on 24th February in Dubai.
