Spectrum Radio requests to change format of output

London based multicultural radio service, Spectrum Radio has notified Ofcom of a format change to become a fully-fledged ethnic minority speech station.

Ofcom is seeking views from the industry about the station’s request. Spectrum Radio wishes to change the ‘Character of Service’ of the station’s published Format from a service aimed at various different ethnic minority communities in London to an all-speech service for Londoners focussing on “business and finance, sport, entertainment, current affairs and essential information.”

Its format request may face objections from existing London speech stations like LBC, Talk Radio and Lyca Dilse.

Spectrum Radio has previously dedicated segments of its broadcast to Asian brands like ARY Radio, Sabras Radio and ZEE Radio.

The consultation process will remain open until Thursday 10th August 2017.
