Special report: The grand premiere of ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’

‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ finally premiered in a grand event filled with Bollywood glitterati on the evening of 12th November. The who’s who of the film fraternity made their presence felt as they arrived to be a part of a special farewell and celebration of the late great Yash Chopra.

NDTV caught up with the stars as they step foot on the red carpet and spoke to them about the essence of Chopra. Here is what they had to say:

Karan Johar: “There’s a sense of longing and wishing that he was walking the red carpet right now as we speak.”

Anil Kapoor: “We’ve come here to celebrate Yash Chopra and for us, he’s still alive. For everyone, for every cine-goer throughout the world, he’s alive through his films, through his work, through his music, through his charm. He was a very charming guy and had a great sense of humour. For him, movie-making was fun.”

Amitabh Bachchan: “Kya kahen, yeh Yashji ke aakhri film hai aur zaheer hai ke itna sara samay humne uske saath bitaaya, itni achhi achhi filmein humne uske saath banaayi. Hum utsuk hai andar jaane ke liye”.

Aamir Khan: “We all miss him today and we are remembering him. We pray this this film is his biggest success of all the films that he’s made and he’s made huge successes…. Parampara mein hum saath kaam kar rahe the toh bahut saari memories hai. He was always a very gregarious person… he’s very warm and loving.”

Shah Rukh Khan when asked about whether he’s looking forward to the 13th November when all the figures start rolling in: “I think the only figures I know are 36-24-36! Whoever does those figures, they’ll count. For 20 years I’ve said that I don’t look at the numbers of a film, I never have and I don’t need to. I’m going to hope that people like the film. I have a great feeling. I was just speaking to Adi and Gauri’s seen the film, she liked it. If she likes itthenI’m sure it’ll be a nice film.”

BipashaBasu: “You know my most favourite Yashji moment was the very first time when I received a cheque from him for Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi, for my guest appearance in the film. He said ‘Welcome to theYash Raj family beta’.I was a relative newcomer at that point of time, I didn’t understand much about films but I knew Yash Chopra”.

Arjun Kapoor was spotted with cousin Sonam and talked about his expectations of the night, “Celebration is the most important. Celebrating the man that he was, and what he’s left behind for us. I think it’s the most perfect way to celebrate this man – in his studio to watch his film.”

Shahid Kapoor: “I am expecting the kind of cinema I have always loved. I am a big fan of Yashji’s. He celebrates life and he celebrates love and I’m so happy that they are celebrating his last film.”

Imran Khan: “I’m expecting it to be a whole lot of fun… Yashji was a person who made films larger than life but he was not a larger than life character. I remember meeting him time and again in the canteens and he stood in line like everyone else, he sat around on the tables with the guys from YRF. He is the kind of guy who would want us to come here and celebrate his work…”

Some of the stars have already tweeting their reviews of ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’. Here is a snippet of the their thoughts of the movie:
