The Southbank Centre has confirmed that its annual Alchemy festival will not be returning in 2019.

Asian Culture Vulture reports that the South Asian celebration has been pulled ahead of its tenth year anniversary this summer. It said that the decision came about after the exit of its artistic director, Jude Kelly in May last year and Rachel Harris, Alchemy’s producer in October.

The report added that it wanted its new director Madani Younis, to develop his programme vision. However, the decision not to run Alchemy 2019 was taken prior to Younis joining in December last year.

The Southbank Centre stressed that the decision to end Alchemy would not result in South Asian inspired events.
