‘Sooryavanshi’ & ’83’ to incur huge losses due to coronavirus delays?

This season’s two biggest releases ‘Sooryavanshi’ and ’83’ are facing big challenges ahead as the coronavirus delays have resulted in further concerning news for both films.

According to Mumbai Mirror, the two, along with other films may face more losses after insurance polices stated that they do not cover for movies, which have not released in cinemas or are shut down under the current pandemic.

The movie ‘Angrezi Medium’, which released days before the lockdown in India, was covered by insurance for Distributors Loss of Profit/Revenue

A source working for an insurance company for film policies told the publication, “Since February, Coronavirus is excluded as a clause for any loss incurred by filmmakers during production. Film releases being postponed or filming rescheduled due to the outbreak are not covered by the policies. While epidemics are usually covered when policies are sold to the clients, Coronavirus has been excluded from pre-existing conditions. It’s like an insurance company won’t cover costs of a surgery if you buy a policy after diagnosis and learn that you need to undergo one.”

It remains to be seen how much of a loss the two films will face when they eventually release.
