Sony & Viacom18 merger set to be announced around mid-September?

After months of speculation, it now seems the much awaited merger between Sony Pictures Networks India and Viacom18 is a done deal.

According to reports, the deal will be sealed in September, with an announcement expected around mid-September. It is reported that the three giant entertainment entities – Sony, Viacom18 and Jio Studios will come under one umbrella after the merger. The new bouquet will consist of 77 linear television channels, two OTT platforms, three film studios and two digital content studios, according to Exchange4Media.

Furthermore, Sony will be the major shareholder – with a stake of anything between 51% and 55% in the newly formed entity.

Sony Pictures Networks and Viacom18 will see two old rivals, Sony TV and Colors become one, along with huge brands like Sony SAB TV, Sony MAX, Colors Rishtey and Colors Cineplex, among many others. The network will also boast of SonyLIV and Voot to bolster its digital presence.
