Sony TV unveils primetime shows shakeup

Sony Entertainment Television Asia has announced a string of changes to its primetime schedule to coincide with the launch of its new Balaji Telefilms soap.

The channel, which has been lagging in third position in India, is hoping the new offerings will click with viewers. It recently unveiled a new look to its network, complete with new graphics and an on-air logo.

Out go ‘Thodi Khushi Thodi Gham’ and ‘Durgesh Nandini’ and in comes Balaji Telefilms much awaited new drama ‘Kuchh Is Tarah’.

‘Thodi Khushi Thodi Gham’ and ‘Durgesh Nandini’ are both coming to their natural ends just in time for the primetime shakeup. Whilst ‘Thodi Khushi Thodi Gham’ has had a decent two-year run, not the same can be applied to ‘Durgesh Nandini’, which has suffered in the highly competitive 22:00 strand.

‘Durgesh Nandini’ will be replaced with ‘Viruddh’, which moves from its existing 21:30 slot to make way for ‘Amber Dhara’. The conjoined twins۪ drama currently in the 21:00 slot will move to 21:30 to welcome ‘Kuchh Is Tarah’ at 21:00.

‘Kuchh Is Tarah’ will be Ekta Kapoor’s second drama in Sony TV’s primetime, the other being ‘Khwahish’, which too has failed to strike a chord with its viewers.

According to TellyChakkar, the story of ‘Kuchh Is Tarah’ revolves around a middle class girl who harbors dreams of her Prince Charming sweeping her off her feet some day.

“This is the only show which is very close to my heart as it has a unique storyline though the theme of love is the same. The tale will take a turn when a villain comes between the two lovers. Kuchh Is Tara will be counted as one of the best shows I۪ve made till now,” says Ekta Kapoor (to TellyChakkar).

The changes come into force on Monday 26th November.
