Sony Entertainment Television Asia’s parent company Multi Screen Media has christened its upcoming sports channel as ‘Six’, according to reports.
When Six launches later this year, it will be India’s eleventh sports channel currently dominated by two main networks ESPN Star Sports and ZEE Network owned Taj Television. Neo Sports Broadcast has been struggling. ESPN and Star have a joint venture between them too.
With Multi Screen Media holding the rights for the Indian Premier League, the NBA, FA Cup and New Zealand cricket, the broadcaster is set to make a swoop for the India cricket games. Until now, they have been sitting with Neo Sports (Nimbus) but its contract was terminated recently for non-payment of dues.
Nitesh Kripalani is tipped to be the business head of the sports channel. He is currently serving as the network’s vice-president business development and digital/syndication.
