Sony TV signs up ex-BBC man Gurdip Bhangoo

Sony Entertainment Television Asia (SET) has appointed former BBC Asian Network’s Gurdip Bhangoo as its programming head.

Bhangoo will report directly to Sony TV executive vice president and business head Albert Almeida when he joins on Wednesday 1st October.

Bhangoo was at the BBC for 15 years where he was the executive producer and head of BBC Asian programming unit. During his tenure at the BBC he was responsible for overseeing the development of ideas, content production and onscreen talent for the Asian Programming unit across BBC.

Multi Screen Media CEO Kunal Dasgupta said, “Bhangoo brings with him a unique combination of international TV experience coupled with a good understanding of programming to the South Asian community. He has proven creative leadership and in his last position, was the only Asian to occupy such a senior position at the BBC UK, leading a team of senior talent. He has been responsible for creating and commissioning content for the Asian Programming Unit of BBC.”

Bhangoo commented on his new assignment, “The SET role is particularly interesting for me because it gives me a challenging opportunity to generate big impact entertainment programming for the Indian market, a country that I have a strong connect with thanks to my roots and my experience at the BBC. India is currently among the hottest markets to be in and the TV space is no different. I’m also excited to work with an innovative network owned and backed by SPTI.”
