Sony TV & Sahara One in movie syndication deals

Sony Entertainment Television Asia has announced that it has acquired a batch of latest movies on a syndication deal with Eros International.

The deal with the channel allows Eros to premiere on the channel a slate of 16 new films including current blockbusters from last year such as ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Heyy Babyy’, ‘Dus Kahaniyan’, ‘Sunday’, ‘Black & White’ and ‘One Two Three’. This deal is restricted to only the first airing.

Eros International director and president for India Sunil Lulla comments, “We have enjoyed a great relationship with Sony over the years, who, like Eros, have been trendsetters in their space. I am delighted we were able to conclude another innovative deal with them this year.”

SET India CEO Kunal Dasgupta says, “Eros is a major player within the Indian film sector and Bollywood films are a critical part of our programming mix. We are delighted to have secured this deal with Eros with whom we have enjoyed a great working relationship for several years.”

Eros International has also struck a deal of the same with Sahara One. It has given the channel access 35 movies from its library including hits ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Devdas’ and ‘Hey Ram’.

“We have had business dealing with Sahara for many years now, but this is the first time we have licensed them a slate of films for television exploitation, and hope to continue to do more deals with them in the future,” added Lulla.

Sahara Network CEO Seemanto Roy said, “Our channel Filmy has been doing extremely well at the ratings. We are confident that this slate of films from Eros will allow us to maximise our revenues from the channel.”

Previously ‘Jabb We Met’ producers Indian Film Company and Shree Ashtavinayak syndicated the rights to ZEE, INX, Sony and UTV Movies for a reported price of Rs 220 million.
