Sony TV planning to launch new channel in India?

Sony Entertainment Television Asia will be joined by a new sister channel in the coming weeks in India, according to reports today.

Popular media website, Indian Television reports that parent company Multi Screen Media is working on plans to launch a new Hindi entertainment channel that will complement its flagship service.

The unnamed channel could launch within the next 6-8 weeks ahead of the end of the fiscal year. It is expected to broadcast new fictions starring Amitabh Bachchan and wife Jaya Bachchan separately. The report adds that licences have already been obtained by the broadcaster from the Indian government.

While Sony Entertainment Television Asia will concentrate on reality television and gameshows, Sony SAB TV will continue with its successful formula of airing light entertainment shows.

It is not yet known if the new channel will be available in the UK, however, with plans underway to reposition the distribution of Sony channels including Sony TV and Sony MAX – the network could bring the new channel to strengthen its share in the market.
