Sony TV challenges Rishtey’s YRF movie deal

After it emerged that Rishtey had “acquired” a slew of Yash Raj Films titles, Sony Entertainment Television Asia contested it.

The broadcaster who holds the exclusive rights (along with B4U Movies) for the Yash Raj Films catalogue was furious with reports that Rishtey claimed it had secured the blockbuster movies. BizAsia reported last week that Rishtey was to air these movies from April after confirmation from the channel itself. However, since then Sony TV said it was not true and the rights of these movies will remain with Sony and B4U.

While Rishtey was unavailable to comment, it did confirm that the films will now not air on its channel. The Yash Raj Films will continue broadcasting exclusively on Sony TV, Sony SAB TV, Sony MAX and B4U Movies.
