Sony MAX UK to air Vijender Singh’s WBO title fight

Sony Pictures Networks has confirmed that Sony MAX will air Vijender Singh’s WBO title fight this weekend, live and exclusively in UK/Europe.

BizAsiaLive.com has learnt that the Battleground Asia will feature WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight champion, Singh take on China’s No.1 boxer and WBO Oriental Super Middleweight champion Zulpikar Maimaitali for a double title fight. The winner of the two will be crowned ‘King Of Asia’.

This is the first time that a UK Asian TV channel will be broadcasting boxing. Big title fights are usually aired on premium sports channels like Sky Sports and Box Nation. However, Sony Pictures Networks has acquired the India, UK, USA and Asia Pacific rights for the first time. Sony MAX UK will run pictures from sister channel, Sony Ten in India.

Sony MAX UK is now available to all Sky customers at no extra cost. The boxing spectacle will also be aired on the newly launched Sony MAX HD, available to Sky HD subscribers in the UK.

Incidentally, this is not the only sport being broadcast on Sony MAX UK, the channel also holds the exclusive cricket rights to the ongoing India tour of Sri Lanka. The second Test of the tournament airs from Thursday (3rd August) on Sony MAX SD & HD UK.
