Sony India set to acquire Pakistan Cricket Board media rights

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) is reportedly favourite to bag the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) rights for the team’s home international games (except Pakistan Super League).

According to CricBuzz, Sony India could become the first major broadcaster to air Pakistani cricket after tensions between India and Pakistan recently. DSport showed the 2018 and 2019 Pakistan Super League tournament but halted it due to the Pulwama attacks.

A PCB leading figure said, “I don’t comment on such things. It is a fact that the matches will be shown in India. I don’t deal in such things, my commercial department is dealing with it. Yes, we are close to a deal with Sony.”

A Sony official told the publication, “We have agreed on everything in principle and if all things fall in place, we could start showing the games as early as January 26 itself,” the Sony official said. “All their games, be it in Pakistan or in UAE, will be on Sony Sports for three years.”
